Privacy Policy
In short
- No account, no ads, no tracking.
- Your health data stays on your watch.
- We never sell your data.
This policy covers the WatchPaper app for iPhone, its app for Apple Watch, and this website. It says what data is used, where it goes, how long it is kept, and how you stay in control.
What we collect
WatchPaper needs no account and never asks for your name. There are no ads and no tracking, and we never sell data. We run no servers that collect anything from the app. Only two things ever leave your devices: a rounded location for the weather (see Location), and any email you choose to send us.
The iPhone app reads nothing personal from your iPhone. When you add a Stats face, it may show Apple’s Health permission sheet, because the iPhone app and the watch app share one Health permission. The iPhone app itself never reads your health data.
Health data
Stats faces read steps, heart rate, active calories, distance and stand hours from Apple Health on your watch, only to show them on your faces and in the WatchPaper app on your watch. WatchPaper only reads them and never writes to Health.
Your health data never leaves your watch. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, not used for ads or marketing, and not stored in iCloud. WatchPaper does not save it either: it reads it again each time a face updates.
Location
For the temperature on your Stats faces, the watch asks for your location while WatchPaper is in use. We round it to about 1 km (two decimal places) and send it over an encrypted connection to Open-Meteo, a weather service, which answers with the temperature and the sky. Photo faces get their weather from your watch’s own Weather app, and WatchPaper never sees it.
We don’t keep your location. The watch keeps only the weather reading. If you turn Location off, the watch deletes that reading the next time WatchPaper opens on it. Open-Meteo may keep the request (the rounded location and your IP address) in its server logs for up to 90 days, and then deletes it. Say no, and the face shows --°.
Purchases
Purchases go through Apple, so we never see your card details. Apple only tells the app whether Premium is unlocked. That is how Restore Purchase brings it back. Apple handles the payment under its own privacy policy.
Between your iPhone and your watch
So that the iPhone app can show its watch setup checklist, the watch app tells it whether it has been opened and whether Health and Location are on. This goes straight between your own devices and never reaches us.
Stored on your devices
The iPhone app keeps your settings on your iPhone: the app language, your watch model, the faces you added or saved, and your recent searches. The watch keeps the last weather reading. None of this is sent to us, and deleting the app deletes it.
Emails you send us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. In the app, Settings → Contact us opens Mail. If you turn on “Include watch details”, the email also carries the app and iOS versions and whether WatchPaper is on your watch, never your health data.
We use your email only to reply. We keep it only as long as we need it to help you, and we delete it when you ask.
Who else receives data
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) receives the rounded location, plus the IP address that every internet request carries. It uses them to send back the weather and, as its terms say, to keep its servers running and stop misuse. It receives no name, account, device ID or health data. Its terms say it deletes its server logs after 90 days.
- Apple processes purchases and refunds through the App Store, under Apple’s privacy policy. If you allow sharing with app developers in your iPhone’s analytics settings, Apple may also send us crash reports that do not name you.
- Our email provider delivers the emails you send us and keeps them in our inbox.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and handles your connection to it.
Each of them receives only what it needs for that one job. We only use services that protect your data at least as well as this policy does and as the App Store rules require. We share nothing else with anyone, and we never sell, rent or trade data.
This website
This website sets no cookies and has no analytics, ads or trackers. Its fonts and pictures load from this site only. Cloudflare, which hosts it, processes your IP address to deliver the pages and to protect the site from attacks.
How long we keep data
We keep nothing about you on our side, except the emails you send us, as described above. Data on your devices stays until you delete the app. The weather reading on your watch is replaced at each update. After you turn Location off, it is deleted the next time WatchPaper opens on your watch. Open-Meteo deletes its server logs after 90 days.
Your choices
- Health: on your iPhone, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Health → WatchPaper. Turn off any kind of data, and the faces show -- instead.
- Location: on your watch, open Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → WatchPaper. Choose Never, and the watch deletes its weather reading the next time WatchPaper opens on it.
- Everything at once: delete WatchPaper from your iPhone and your watch.
- Your emails: write to support@watchpaper.app and we will delete them, or tell you what we hold.
Children
WatchPaper asks no one, child or adult, for a name, an account or contact details, and it treats everyone’s data the same way. The only data that leaves your devices is the rounded location sent to Open-Meteo for the weather, and any email you choose to send us. If you think a child has written to us, tell us and we will delete the email.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here and change the date at the top.
